Abat Oliba CEU University’s International Journalism Week 2012 : The new faces of Journalism and Mass Media. Communication in the 21st century

Barcelona – February the 27th to March the 2nd, 2012

The Vice-dean of Journalism Studies of the Abat Oliba CEU University (UAO) of Barcelona invites professors, professionals and teaching staff from international universities to participate at the « UAO International Journalism Week – 2012 » entitled « The new faces of Journalism and Mass Media. Communication in the 21st century » and organized by the Department of Journalism Studies from February the 27th to March the 2nd 2012.

The activity is a part of the Abat Oliba CEU International Journalism Programme and presents four main purposes :

–To create a space of shared knowledge on issues regarding modern day Journalism / Mass Media production through conferences, seminars and workshops with a group of highly motivated students, professionals and teachers
–To allow students from the Abat Oliba CEU University and students from other participating universities to understand the developments of Journalism / Mass Media issues and concerns in today’s professional and academic environment
–To allow a space of mutual acquaintance, debate and collaboration between Journalism / Mass Media teachers and professionals from different international universities on academic and professional issues related to Journalism and Mass Media practices and education
–To generate international contacts with experts and academics in the area of Journalism / Mass Media in order to promote common research and exchange projects

All the activities will be done in English with a public of Journalism and Mass Media students, professionals and teaching personnel from the Abat Oliba CEU University and other participant universities in Barcelona.

Who is invited to participate ?

The « UAO International journalism week – 2012 » is open to :
–Teachers and professionals from international universities that have an Erasmus teacher collaboration agreement with the Abat Oliba CEU Journalism / Mass Media studies department (costs are covered by the Eramus teacher exchange programme of their main faculty)
–Teachers and professionals from international universities that are interested in participating in the « UAO International Journalism Week – 2012 » as part of their international teaching experience (in this case costs must be covered by their own academic institutions)
–Students from international universities that wish to participate during the week’s activities under the supervision of a teacher / representative of their own university (costs must be covered by their own academic institutions as a part of their international exchange programme)
–Journalism / Mass Media students form the Abat Oliba CEU University in Barcelona
Transport and accommodation together with non scheduled meals must be handled by the participants in the context of their university’s international exchange programmes. The organizers will gladly provide information regarding transport, nearby hotels and residences.

What kind of activities take place during the « UAO International Journalism Week – 2012 » ?

The activities of the « UAO International Journalism Week – 2012 » will take place from February the 27th (Monday) to March the 2nd  (Friday) of 2012 and are divided into four categories :
–Conferences, seminars and workshops from  9’00 to 13’30 hrs.
–Two teacher exchange meetings that will take place from 15’00 to 17’00 hrs.
–One guided cultural visit to Barcelona from 15’00 to 18’00 hrs.
–Social events, like opening cocktail and closing dinner

What are the topics of this years International Journalism Week ?

This year’s « UAO International Journalism Week – 2012 » will be centred on the subject « The new faces of Journalism and Mass Media. Communication in the 21st century », welcoming experts, professionals and academicians from different areas, such as :
–Journalism / Mass Media production : transformations and new tendencies in Journalism news production ; photojournalism and infographics ; new tendencies in Mass Media production and narratives, etc.
–Journalism / Mass Media theory and effects : Journalism and Mass Media theory and social effects ; social networks and social / behavioural issues ; intercultural communication and Mass Media ; new paradigms in audiences and publics, etc.
–Journalism / Mass Media and new technologies : new frontiers of digital Journalism,  Mass Media and Social Networks, on-line reporting, citizen journalism, etc.
–Journalism / Mass Media and design : graphic and infographic design practices and tendencies ; journal, review and new technology design, best practices, etc.
–Information / Mass Media entrepreneurship : new tendencies in information and Mass Media business ; tendencies and best practices in information entrepreneurship, etc.

–Full name(s) of participant(s)
–University, Department and Faculty that is being represented
–Brief CV (no more than five lines) indicating studies, teaching / professional experience, publications (if any) and personal interests (this CV will be used to present the participant during the weeks activities and in information material)
–Contact details (complete address, e-mail and contact phone number)
–Title of the conference / seminar / workshop that would be offered
–Copy (in digital format) of the participants passport or National Identity Card
A formal invitation letter will be sent to the participant in digital and paper format.
