Reconceptualizing the Field : International Perspectives

Conference – Columbia, Missouri, September 24-25, 2015

Mass communication and the subfields of Journalism Studies, Political Communication, Health Communication, and Strategic Communication have each encountered an array of conceptual and theoretical challenges in the wake of digitization, globalization and other disruptions. Terms such as audience, journalist, and even mass communication no longer capture communication phenomena in the ways they once did. This conference seeks papers that reconceptualize old, but still valuable concepts or that offer new concepts and theories to capture newly emergent communication phenomena. The conference welcomes perspectives from North America and around the world.

We are calling for English-language papers that address the field of Mass Communication and the subfields of Journalism Studies, Political Communication, Health Communication and Strategic Communication. This conference is sponsored by the University of Missouri School of Journalism and will be held September 24-25, 2015, in Columbia, Missouri, USA.

A 400-500 word abstract should be submitted to mujourresearchconf15@missouri.edu by April 15, 2015. Notice of acceptance will be provided by May 15, 2015. Full papers of no more than 8000 words will be due by September 10, 2015.
